the morris Made ProcessA Thoughtful Process. A Website Made for Your Business.
Your website shouldn’t feel like your business was squeezed into someone else’s template. Every new Morris Made website is built from scratch around your brand, your goals, and the people you’re trying to reach.
From our first conversation through launch, my process is collaborative, flexible, and designed to keep you involved without making you responsible for figuring everything out yourself.
HOW IT WORKSFrom First Conversation to Launch
Every website is different, but the overall process stays simple. We’ll figure out what you need, establish the direction together, build and refine the site, and make sure everything is ready before it goes live.
We'll start with a short discovery conversation by call, email, or message. I'll learn about your business, current website, goals, aesthetic, functionality, integrations, budget, timeline, and overall expectations.
If you already have a website, I'll review that too. This first conversation helps me understand what you actually need and gives us both a chance to make sure Morris Made is the right fit.
Once we decide to work together, I'll finalize your scope based on the size of the site, design requirements, functionality, integrations, and additional services. You'll receive a proposal, contract, and initial invoice, with a 50% deposit to begin the project.
From there, I'll collect your branding, content, photography, website access, inspiration, and other project materials. Behind the scenes, I'll also review your industry, competitors, existing website and analytics when relevant, navigation, calls to action, and conversion goals so we're designing with a purpose rather than simply making something look good.
I typically begin with the homepage because it establishes the visual language for the rest of the website, including typography, color, imagery, spacing, sections, interactions, and overall feel.
You'll review the homepage and provide feedback before I carry that approved direction into your inner pages. Every new Morris Made website is built from scratch for the individual client. I don't start with a purchased website template and swap in your logo and colors.
Once the direction is established, I'll build the remaining pages and functionality. Depending on your platform and project, that may include custom CSS, JavaScript, Liquid, custom sections, animations, forms, integrations, graphics, ecommerce functionality, or other custom development.
You'll receive a live link to review your site as we work through it. Projects typically include two revision rounds per page, and I prefer written or screen-recorded feedback so I can easily reference your notes while making changes.
Once the desktop design is approved, I'll fine-tune the mobile experience so the site feels intentionally designed across screen sizes rather than simply scaled down.
Before launch, I'll also check links, forms, integrations, responsive behavior, browser and device compatibility, domain settings, redirects when needed, and the SEO elements included within your project. Once everything is approved, tested, and the remaining balance is complete, it's time to launch.
If you'd like to manage the website yourself, I'll make sure you have the ownership and access you need, along with applicable files and a video walkthrough showing you how to make basic updates.
Or, if you'd rather not add website maintenance to your to-do list, I can stick around. Ongoing hosting and website support are available for clients who want help with updates, troubleshooting, improvements, and keeping their site working as their business evolves.
Want to See the Direction First?
For qualifying website projects, I offer a complimentary homepage mockup after our initial conversation.
It gives you a chance to see how I interpret your business, aesthetic, and goals before committing to the full website. If we decide to work together, that initial direction gives us a starting point for the project.
BEFORE YOU COMMITOne Process. Different Platforms.
The overall goal stays the same. How we get there depends on what we’re building.
I work across multiple website platforms and adapt the design and development process to the tools, functionality, and technical requirements of each project.
PLATFORM-SPECIFIC APPROACHWhat I Need From You
You don’t need to know how to build a website. That’s my job. What I do need is your knowledge of your business.
The smoothest projects happen when clients communicate what they want, provide feedback when something doesn’t feel right, and are also open to recommendations in return.
If you have branding, photography, website copy, inspiration, or examples of things you love (or hate), send them my way. If you don’t have everything figured out yet, that’s okay too.
You know your business. I know websites. The best results happen when we bring the two together.
A COLLABORATIVE PROCESSHow Long Does a Website Take?
Most Morris Made website projects take around one month.
Some are faster and some take longer. Timing depends on the size and complexity of the website, custom development, integrations, content readiness, and how quickly feedback and approvals happen.
I’ll establish an expected timeline before we begin and keep you updated if anything changes along the way.
TIMELINEYour Website Is Live. What Happens Next?
You can take it from here, or I can stick around.
